GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences is pleased to announce GW Biomedical Cross-disciplinary Seminar Series: Connecting Academic Research & Inquiry Across Disciplines—a series of seminars that will explore a new cross-disciplinary topic each year. For the inaugural year, the focus is "Inflammation in Chronic Disease: Cause, Consequence, or Both?" and will address both the treatment and prevention of chronic inflammatory diseases.
Organized and supported by the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology and the Office of Integrative Medicine and Health the seminars will respond to the looming threat of chronic inflammatory diseases (CIDs) and further the SMHS strategy to develop a new model for sharing best practices and data between SMHS and community leaders to improve the health of individuals and populations, particularly the underserved and vulnerable. The goal is to move the science forward by bringing researchers, providers, and learners together to shift the paradigm—from seeking a cure to developing a strategy of prevention.
The inaugural seminars will focus on several areas of chronic inflammatory disease (CID) including:
- Cancer and inflammation
- Genomics and inflammation
- Bioinformatics, precision medicine, and inflammation
- Cardiometabolic disease and inflammation
- Neuropsychiatric disease and inflammation
- Precision and Integrative medicine approaches to CIDs
- Plus a final seminar on One GW Day!
The CID seminars run from November to September 2020 on the Foggy Bottom campus. They are open to the GW community. The first seminar is on cancer and inflammation from noon - 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, in Ross Hall. Registration required.
