Join us for GW Biomedical Cross-disciplinary Seminar Series: Connecting Academic Research & Inquiry Across Disciplines—a series of seminars that will explore a new cross-disciplinary topic each year. For the inaugural year, the focus is "Inflammation in Chronic Disease: Cause, Consequence, or Both?" and will address both the treatment and prevention of chronic inflammatory diseases.

Katherine Chiappinelli, PhD, assistant professor, Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Tropical Medicine, GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences, is kicking off the seminar series with a lecture on "Repetitive Elements and the Immune Response in Cancer." Dr. Chiappinelli has almost a decade's worth of experience working in molecular biology, where she specializes in cancer epigenetics. She has focused on regulation of tumor immune signaling by epigenetic mechanisms and using epigenetic therapies to arm the immune system to fight cancer.

The seminars run from November to September 2020 on the Foggy Bottom campus. They are open to the GW community. Each seminar includes a catered lunch. Registration required for lunch purposes.
