Join us for the GW Biomedical Cross-disciplinary Seminar Series: Connecting Academic Research & Inquiry Across Disciplines. This virtual lecture series explores a new cross-disciplinary topic each year.  The goal is to promote networking and collaboration in translational health among researchers, health care providers, and policy makers from different disciplines to shift the paradigm—from seeking a cure to developing a strategy of prevention. The 2022-23 seminar series topic is cardiovascular disease.

This online lecture on "Translating Nutrition Science into Practice" will be presented by Kristina Petersen, PhD, APD, FAHA, assistant professor, Nutritional Sciences, Obesity Research Institute, Texas Tech University, at 12 p.m. ET on Thursday, October 13, 2022.

Dr. Petersen's research focuses on nutritional strategies to delay and prevent the onset of cardiometabolic diseases.  She studies the efficacy and effectiveness of dietary interventions to reduce metabolic dysfunction and the risk of cardiometabolic diseases in at-risk populations.  Dr. Petersen conducts human clinical trials to examine the effect of individual foods, bioactives and dietary patterns on risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases.  In addition, she aims to translate research findings gained under highly controlled conditions to strategies, underpinned by behavior change theory, that improve the overall diet of free-living individuals.
